MNAA is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors elected by the
Indian Communities residing in the ten-county area of the Southern
Piedmont referred to as “The Metrolina Area” (Cabarrus, Catawba,
Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly, and
Union) which defines the organization's service area. There are
approximately ten thousand Native Americans living in the Metrolina Area.
This population is comprised of Native Americans from many different
tribes from North Carolina, South Carolina and many other states.
Consequently, MNAA is considered an "Inter-Tribal Organization".
As Charlotte is the second-largest banking center in the United States, we
have a diverse array of Native American culture from around the country.
With such a diversity we experience and learn many different tribal
histories, customs and traditions. The result of this cross-cultural sharing
is, the further preservation of the American Indian heritage, and affords
natives and non-natives, the opportunity for exposure and learning.
In order to share the diverse Native American cultures with the community,
we present an annual Pow-wow in the Charlotte and Indian Trail area.
Each year we have attracted visitors, dancers, singers, many arts, crafts
vendors, and spectators from around the country. Everyone is invited to
come and experience our history and culture at our next POW WOW event.
